FAQ's

Q: What is an Outclass Hub?
A: An Outclass Hub is a relocatable modular space designed for outdoor learning, sensory environments, and teaching support. They are prefabricated off-site and delivered ready to place.

Q: Can we rent an Outclass Hub rather than purchase one?
A: Yes — we are open to discussing rental options. If you want a temporary or trial solution, we can work out a rental plan that suits your school’s needs and timeline.

Q: Do I need a building consent to install an Outclass Hub?
A: It depends. We recommend using our non-consented Outclass Hubs wherever possible for ease of cost and delivery/installation. These are essentially treated as storage-type structures, rather than full teaching buildings, and thereby often don’t require formal consents.

If you require a fully consented structure — for example if your building includes toilets, full power, double glazing, or for a special-needs hub — we can provide consented models.

Q: Can the units be customised?
A: Absolutely. We can customise door styles (e.g. roller doors, sliding glass, hinged doors), internal layouts, cladding finishes, lighting, power outlet placement, and more. Just talk to us about your ideal configuration.

Q: Where can you deliver these Hubs?
A: We deliver to any site that has suitable access for a HIAB truck or a crane unit. The site should allow the machinery to place the unit safely. If access is constrained, we may need to assess alternative delivery strategies.

Q: What about foundation or groundworks?
A: We recommend using screw piles as the foundation for the Hub. These are installed into the ground to provide stable support. Please note: the supply and installation of screw piles is not included in the standard Hub cost — it must be contracted separately by the school. For a typical 6 × 3 m Hub, the screw pile installation cost is in the ballpark of NZD 5,000–6,000.

Q: How long will delivery take from order to installation?
A: Our current lead time is approximately 4–6 weeks, depending on customization, site preparation, and scheduling.

Q: What cladding and joinery do you use?
A: Exterior cladding is standard: Coloursteel on the back wall and Weathertex on the front three sides (or other options on request). The aluminium joinery in non-consented models is single-glazed by default; double glazing is available in our consented versions.

Q: Do you provide power and lighting in the Hub?
A: Yes. We can supply units with LED lighting and power outlets. These are connected via a caravan-style power supply junction box, so you (or your electrician) can hook them into your existing power source.

Q: Can I get roller doors instead of glass or hinged doors?
A: Yes — door options are flexible. Roller doors, sliding doors, folding doors, or glass doors can all be accommodated on request depending on your design preferences and requirements.

Q: Are there size constraints or standard Hub dimensions?
A: Our typical units are modular 6mt x 3mt or 9mt x 3mt. We can however discuss custom sizes depending on site constraints. We’ll advise on structural viability and transportability when planning.

Q: What happens after delivery — do we need further work?
A: After delivery and placement, you’ll need to complete site hookups (power, any plumbing and drainage, furnishing if desired) and any peripheral landscaping or finishing touches. The hub itself is ready to use within hours of landing, once the unit is secured to the foundation. The fold-down deck means that there is very minimal site works needed, which reduces the needs for extended health and safety risks of construction on site.

Q: What about maintenance and durability?
A: Our structures are built to withstand outdoor conditions. Claddings, joinery, and finishes are chosen for durability. However, regular maintenance (such as cleaning, checking seals, repainting if needed) is recommended to preserve appearance and function.

Q: Can we relocate the Hub later if needed?
A: Yes — one of the benefits of our relocatable design is that Hubs can be moved, provided the new site meets the access and foundation requirements.

Q: Do you assist with consents or design approvals?
A: For consented Hubs, we can assist with design documentation, engineering, and liaising with authorities to help you through the consent process.

Q: Can you supply Hubs for non-educational uses (e.g. community, therapy, offices, dental clinics)?
A: Yes — while we specialise in educational and sensory learning environments, we can adapt our Hubs to suit a variety of uses. Just let us know your intended function.

Q: Who pays for the foundations and site works?
A: The school (or client) is responsible for contracting and paying for the foundation works (e.g. screw piles) and any site preparation, as these are outside the standard Hub cost.
