“It’s been a fantastic tool for us as support staff to be able to form and foster real and meaningful relationships with our students while also being able to provide one on support which we know is so important for the success of our children.”
— Judy Panapa - Acting Principal - Tikipunga Primary School
Tikipunga Primary has been fortunate enough to be blessed with such a special outdoor space that is truly loved and shared by all our tamariki, but more specifically, our neurodiverse kids that thrive in the quiet and calm.
Our classrooms can be quite loud and largely decorated with bright lights, beautiful artworks and the constant noise of busy bodies and creative minds. Our outdoor class, affectionately known now as ‘the cabin’ has become a safe haven for a number of our students who rely on the relaxed atmosphere that the cabin provides, not only allowing them to focus and become more engaged in their mahi, but also in helping them to regulate their such big emotions when needed.
Being an outdoor space and away from the main classrooms is a huge benefit for our students as many would know, the sun, the grass and the breeze does wonders! The cabins huge bifold sliding doors, deck and awning are just a few of the features we love as it allows us to fully open up the room and soak up the sun on our glorious outdoor beanbags. Such an awesome feeling in the summer!
It’s been a fantastic tool for us as support staff to be able to form and foster real and meaningful relationships with our students while also being able to provide one on support which we know is so important for the success of our children.
